THE CHALLENGES.

  • Fear of failing.

Freshman year of college, I chose Architecture on a whim. I knew it intimidated me, I knew I could fail and even still, I pursued.

Although it was intimidating, I held this focused curiosity and used that to motivate myself to not only fail, but fail again and again and again, until I succeeded. Trial and Error.

  • Patience and timing.

At the end of Freshman year into Sophomore year, I focused on coming to a design faster and faster. Studying all hours of the day, drawing, researching, studying again, drawing again.

Growing through trusting in my own abilities, to come to a well thought-out design solution.

  • Understanding the meaning of the design process.

I learned through failing. Failures didn’t defeat me in my mind, they led me to the answers, I would constantly go through iterations of my failures and understand where I went wrong. Allowing me to recalibrate and begin a new approach or thought process.

By the end of Sophomore year and the beginning of Junior year, I had accomplished coming to a design solution via design process.
