THE OCULUS GAMING ARENA

Pop-Up Traveling Experience

This travelling experience was designed to promote the production of OCULUS headsets, used in professional work places. Aligning the advancement of technology in our time with how we use that technology to work, in our professional environments.

Upon being handed this project, the design direction became more about experience for the user, opposed to the promoting of selling their product for me. In 2018, GMC had created a virtual reality walk through of their physical quarters, allowing participants to manipulate objects around them. The thought that came to mind was, OCULUS needs to provide this opportunity to their buyers. It establishes a good notion of faith in what they are selling and why. Giving buyers the freedom of exploration into OCULUS’S capabilities.

Focusing on selling the product and experience separately, was challenging to pursue. However, I knew it was the path that ensured trust between buyer and seller, knowing these headsets would be bought by the hundreds for different Industries. This pop-up experience would reflect the flexibility and creativity, OCULUS headsets offer within the workplace. Preliminary research showed that architectural firms, automotive industries, and space assembly buildings used these headsets for further analysis of ideas and collaborations.

The pop-up was then designed to be a symmetrical open arena, with platforms that acted as paths in the virtual realm. Participants walk up to a “White Model” made of wood panels, wrapped in white vinyl, with furnishings mounted to the floor. When the headset is put on, your surroundings stay in place, color is applied and your journey into different interactive industries begins. The center is home to a faux tree with a resting bench that wraps the circumference, acting as a beacon if overstimulated. Multiple floor mounted brush, act as a border, to show the participant the boundaries of the space.
